Founder’s Message
Dear Reader,
First of all, thank you for visiting our website. I truly hope that you find it useful.
Let me briefly introduce myself. I’m a simple person, and come from humble beginnings. Like most people living on this planet, I wish to live well and help others. And probably just like you, I have several challenges in my life, one of which is to stay healthy, and help my family do the same. This of course is not easy. It’s a challenge that we humans have engaged in for millenia. And yet, despite all the progress in medical science and technology, and after all the advances in our collective understanding over thousands of years, health remains a central issue that most of us invariably deal with.
Starting from my teenage years, I’ve been somewhat health conscious, which led me to a career in the health sciences. Armed with an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy, and a doctorate in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, I’ve done research and development work in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals for over two decades (you can find more about my professional background here). During much of this journey, I was naive enough to think that I knew enough about staying healthy. However, in 2004, I was diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune condition. Fortunately, it wasn’t too bad. Nevertheless, it was stunning news to me, and marked a major turning and learning point in my life. What had gone wrong? Was it me, or the environment? What could I do to stay healthy in the future?
Those questions kept nagging at me. The good doctor had sincerely explained that I would need prescription medicine for the rest of my life. The condition would most likely get worse, and it could even become cancerous. I would need regular testing, and the prescribed dose would increase with time. But somehow I did not believe it. Deep down, I felt there had to be a better way rather than resigning to lifelong testing and medication. There had to be some way to find and fix the root cause, and at least it was worth trying. This set me off in a quest for better health. Fast forward ten years, and I’m happy to report that I’m doing much better. I still need to take a small pill daily, but the dose is now half of what it originally was. So I’m headed in the right direction. And since that diagnosis, I’ve learnt more about health and wellness than in all my years at school, college and university.
One of those learnings is absolutely fundamental, something so basic that it is easy to miss: Health begins with Hydration (Why? Because nutrition is foundational for health, and hydration is foundational for nutrition. It is obvious but usually overlooked, even by the USDA food pyramid experts, that the base of the food pyramid should be hydration). If there is just one thing that you take away from this website, please take this concept seriously, and ensure that you live well hydrated with good quality water. For some, this may raise more questions than answers. How to stay “well-hydrated”? What is good quality water? What should be, and what should not be in our drinking water? This website attempts to answers those types of questions, and many more.
So please poke around the website if you haven’t done so already, and feel free to send us questions or comments. If you’re a new visitor, may I suggest starting with the EMDROPS story? It will give you additional understanding about where I’m coming from.
Wishing you health and happiness,
Manpreet (Vick) S. Wadhwa, Ph.D.
